Headset Ear-Cushion Cover Tutorial

I am pretty sure this is one is common.
Your headset ear-cushions gives way after a few months of tender loving care and use. Here's a tutorial on how to give it a new look with an added on cover / slip.

Essential tools: 

1. Measuring tape
2. Clothscissor
3. Threadscissor
4. Medium size cloth fold into half ( depending on your headset earcushion size)
5. Sewing machine
6. Needle and thread
7. Elastic band ( around 5 to 7mm will do) 

Instructions:

First, measure accross the middle point of the headsetcushion from the back to the front. Mine measured about 65mm.

Iron your cloth flat to get the best match to your pattern when you are cutting the cloth.

















Use a compass to draw a circle on an A4 paper according to your measurement and add an allowance of 5mm. Mine came to 70mm.

Cut your paper pattern out and pin it on top of your half folded cloth, right side facing right side.

Now, cut the cloth along the lines of the pattern.

Snip about 5mm around the sides of the cloth that you have cut in about 15mm gaps between each snip. This is to allow a smooth fold on the sides before sewing up the frays on the cloth.

Iron while folding up along the sides of the circle. This will ease the sewing process for the fraying later.

Next, sew up the sides with a zigzag stitch to hold the fraying.

Prepare your elastic band by cutting just enough to get your ear-cushion covers wrapped around the ear-cushions.
A good guide would be roughly the length of the radius of the ear-cushion. Mine was 65mm, so I have prepared a 130mm elastic to be halved into 2 pieces for each side of my ear-cushion.













Since the elastic bands that I am using is the ones that had a low tension, I am going to double it to make the tension higher.
As a general rule, high tension elastics hold better on the ear-cushions as compared to one that has a very low tension.

Use a needle and a thread to stitch up gathers along the outline of the inner fold of the cloth. Remember to knot the end of the thread.

To make gathers, just do a running stitch and pull the cloth towards the starting point of the stitch. Gathers will form.
Sew the elastic band to the gathers on the wrong side of the cloth. Pull the elastic band to match the diameter of the gathered cloth while sewing, making sure the full diameter length is covered.

This is how it will look like after the elastic bands are sewn on. You will be able to expand the opening of the ear-cushion cover.

Finally, put them on your headset and you are ready to go!
